With 4th of July tomorrow, I am feeling very inspired by the “Americana” style. A trend that was brought to life in the early 1990’s by designers like Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger. The classic red, white and blues were the main focus in the trend. Very all-American and bold. I remember going into Macy’s and seeing an entire dedicated area to these designers, everything had a flag on it!
Now days we have even more Americana inspiration from Michael Kors, Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and several brands like J Crew and Madewell. But it seems to be a slightly more sophisticated look now. There is still a strong nod to the red, white and blue, but there are more details of soft chambray, touches of lace, stripes and even some denim-on-denim action. The look is heavy in neutrals, navy, and denim–think layers with a casual, yet polished look. The men always look rugged and masculine, while the women are very feminine and focused on the details. When I am dressed in this trend I like imagine I’m out at a lake house with a horse running around and a small red boat on the dock. (As you can tell I have quite the imagination around my wardrobe moods!) Here are a few of my Pinterest finds that inspire my Americana look — just in time for those 4th of July bbqs!
