I’ve always been fascinated with haute couture and high fashion. If I could dress like I just stepped off the Chanel or Isabel Marant runway I totally would. But since the average price tag for any one piece is more than I make in a year, I have to just take inspiration from it.
Remember the scene from The Devil Wears Prada when Andi (Anne Hathaway) is giggling over the identical belts and gets totally schooled by Miranda (Meryl Streep)? Well that’s totally true! All the clothes found in stores like H&M, JCrew, Aritzia and Zara are inspired and trickled down from high fashion designers in some capacity. It’s interesting to see how different brands translate high fashion into mainstream fashion. But this allows everyone the opportunity to try a certain style and make it their own. I’m always finding a great shoe or jacket with a $500+ price tag that I lust over and try to strategize about how I could buy it. But after deciding I’d rather eat this month and not get my power turned off, I start searching for a more affordable option. Here are a few pieces I’ve had my eyes on lately, and the alternative items I’ve found that will appease my budget!
