We’ve been blogging together for some time here on A.M. REFRESH, but we recently realized that we’ve never properly introduced ourselves to those readers who don’t know us personally. So we thought we’d interview each other as a fun way for you to get to know us. You can read a little about us on our About page — but this is intended to give you a more in-depth look at the ladies behind this blog. We’re starting off with Meg — our stylist for this site by ‘night’ (and weekends), and a retail assistant buyer by day. Enjoy!
We’ll start off with a fashion-related question to ease you in…what trend do you think is here to stay, and what trend do you wish would go away ASAP?
Well trends are constantly changing and modifying, and everything always comes back around. Case in point- 70’s “bell bottoms” are back as “flares” now. Wearing accessories, adding on to an outfit is a trend I think will continue to stay strong. It gives people more of a way to personalize their style. A trend I can’t get behind right now is crop tops! Unless you have a very flat stomach (which I do not) then it’s not very flattering.
You’re literally one of the most put-together and fashionable people I know. Tell us all your secrets! Just kidding, but really, do you have any hard and fast fashion “rules” that you always follow?
My best advice to looking put together is being confident in what you wear. Look for styles that are flattering for your body, fit well and colors that compliment you. Putting outfits together is part of the fun and don’t be afraid to experiment with mixing styles, prints and colors. Find what you feel good in and makes you happy and you’ll always look put together!
One of your passions outside of fashion is fostering rescue dogs. Can you share how you got into that, and why it’s important to you?
As anyone who has ever watched tv with me will know, a humane society commercial comes on…and I am suddenly tearing up. My parents have always had dogs and love them, so naturally they are my favorite animals. I have always volunteered at animal shelters and started fostering (for Smidgets Rescue) last year. It breaks my heart that there are so many abandoned and abused dogs. I love being able to give these dogs a warm and loving home while they wait for their forever home. But while I’m happy to see them get adopted I do get attached and miss them!
You’re engaged, yay! I for one am so, so excited. Can you share how you and your fiance met? This story is especially fun for me! 🙂
Well we don’t actually remember meeting, but we did at some point when Andrea and her husband were dating (the boys were college roommates). At some point I developed a crush on him and even though he didn’t notice me much, when I was a bridesmaid and he was a groomsman we ended up walking down the aisle together in Andrea’s wedding. And the rest is history, and now four years later we are getting married!!
Growing up, were you always interested in fashion and personal style? What inspires you and keeps you motivated?
I have always loved fashion and shopping. I used to watch every episode of What Not To Wear on TLC as a kid. I wanted to be Stacy London so bad. As a teenager I started working in retail and spent everything I made on clothes. As I have gotten older and continue working in the industry, I’ve remained curious about fashion. I’m not the most knowledgeable about politics or current events, but I read a lot of fashion magazines, blogs and fashion news. I like to keep on top of trends and happenings around the industry. And seeing what the celebs and bloggers are wearing and even using Pinterest keeps me inspired and constantly thinking on what I’m missing in my wardrobe, or helps me pick out outfits when I’m styling.
What’s your favorite place you’ve ever traveled?
As a kid I traveled to South Africa. The entire trip was amazing, but there was one hotel we stayed at, it was a few hours outside Johannesburg, that had individual luxury huts as your room. It’s probably the nicest hotel I’ve ever been too. It was on a wildlife reserve where you could take tours to see animals and drive around to take in the scenery. One day we got up at 5am to watch the sunrise out in the open, and it was AMAZING! One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. Something I’ll never forget.
If I could give you a plane ticket right now to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Paris!! I have always wanted to go and still have not gone. Hopefully someday soon I’ll make the trip.
We’ve both lived in the Seattle-area for about a decade now. Crazy how time flies! What are some of your favorite places around here? Restaurants, shops, neighborhoods, etc.
My favorite neighborhood is Ballard, they have everything from shopping to food. My favorite restaurant there is probably La Isla. It’s Puerto Rican food, and it’s amazing. Since I now live in Tacoma, I actually really like that area too. It’s got so many restaurants and breweries and waterfront spots to visit. And it’s never busy like Seattle! So I think that makes me enjoy it more. One of my favorite shops there is the Compass Rose, in Proctor. It’s full of fun keepsakes, locally made jewelry and tons of other items. I could spend an hour there easy.
What’s your favorite movie?
That’s hard, it depends on my mood. But I can always watch Forrest Gump or Mean Girls. I’ve seen them a million times and never get sick of them.
If you could meet anyone in the world, who would you choose?
Another hard one, but there are some fashion icons I would love to meet. Rachel Zoe would probably be at the top of my list. She’s made a career out of styling and now turned that into a fashion brand. I would die to work and learn from her.
Thanks Meg! Do you have any other questions for Meg that I didn’t ask? Leave them below in the comments!
